Dear Exporter,

You are aware of the ongoing geopolitical developments in West Asia, particularly the disruption of key maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, which have led to increased freight costs, insurance premiums and logistical challenges for exporters.

In response, the Department of Commerce / Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has undertaken a swift and coordinated whole-of-government response to stabilise export flows, support exporters-especially MSMEs and ensure continuity of supply chains.

A high-level Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) was constituted on 3 March 2026, which meets daily and brings together key Ministries and agencies including DoC, DPIIT, MoP&NG, MoPS&W, DFS, CBIC, RBI, MEA and Railways. A dedicated Exporter Helpline has been operationalised, along with a focused sub-group to address perishable cargo issues, ensuring real-time resolution of concerns.

Several facilitation measures have been implemented across Ministries, including:

  • – CBIC – Back to Town (BTT) Procedures:
Public Notices issued to enable return of export cargo where EGM has not been filed in view of Middle East disruptions (JNPT, Mundra, Kandla).
